Here are five facts about Eknath Shinde:

Mr. Shinde used to drive an autorickshaw in Thane. He moved to Mumbai from Satara in Maharashtra as a teenager and joined Shiv Sena. Mr. Shinde rose through the ranks after starting a labor union for the party.

He was elected to Thane Municipal Corporation in 1997. He was assigned the task of working in Thane by the Shiv Sena, which helped him build a base in the region.

Shri Shinde was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 2004. His position in the Shiv Sena was strengthened after party founder Bal Thackeray’s nephew left Raj and launched the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). Eknath Shinde: 5 Facts

His son Shrikant Shinde is a Lok Sabha MP from Kalyan and his brother Prakash Shinde is a corporator. When Shiv Sena broke ties with the BJP after 25 years and contested the elections on its own, Mr. Shinde became the leader of the opposition in the state assembly.
