Two priests of the famous temple had on Saturday demanded the withdrawal of advertisements from Zomato claiming it was hurting Hindu sentiments. In the advertisement, Roshan says that he felt like having a “thali” (food platter) in Ujjain, so he ordered it from “Mahakal”.
Responding to a question, Mishra said, “Prima facie, the advertisement video being circulated on social media seems to be morphed. I have asked the Ujjain Superintendent of Police to look into the genuineness of the video and report to me so that action against the culprits can be initiated.” can be done.
The temple priests Mahesh and Ashish had said that Zomato should immediately withdraw the advertisement and apologize. The ‘prasad’ is served on a plate to the devotees and the advertisement hurts the sentiments of Hindus, he claimed.
The priests said they also contacted Ujjain Collector Ashish Singh, who is the chairman of the Mahakal Mandir Trust, and demanded action against the company so that no one mocks Hinduism again.
Collector Singh on Saturday termed the advertisement as “misleading” and said that free food is given in the form of ‘prasad’ in the temple and it is not sold.
Food delivery company Zomato has issued a clarification amid controversy over an advertisement starring Hrithik Roshan, saying the company will withdraw the advertisement. “We sincerely apologize as it was not the intention here to hurt anyone’s trust and sentiments,” the company said.
