Two more High Court judges were elevated to the Supreme Court today, bringing its full strength to 34 judges. The Supreme Court will appoint Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, and Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court.

In accordance with the Constitution of India, the following Chief Justices of High Courts have been appointed Supreme Court judges. “My best to Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court and Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice, Gujarat High Court,” Kiren Rijiju tweeted.
On January 31, the Supreme Court collegium recommended their names.
Five names were recommended for elevation to the top court by the collegium, headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, on December 13, last year, but they were cleared by the center nearly two months later, amid a protracted battle between the executive and the judiciary.
In the past week, Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal, Patna High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Karol, Manipur High Court Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, Patna High Court judge Ahsanuddin Amanullah, and Allahabad High Court judge Manoj Misra took their oaths as Supreme Court judges.
Senior judges recommend names for elevation to the higher judiciary through the collegium system, which has become a major flashpoint between the Supreme Court and the center. Kiren Rijiju has spoken out against the system repeatedly, while the court has retaliated with similar force.
