BCCI posted a 70-second video on Twitter showing some of Dhoni’s breathtaking performances. A legendary helicopter shot, powerful hitting, and monstrous sixes were all featured in the video.
Dhoni also hit an 87m maximum off Mitchell Starc’s delivery during the 2019 ODI World Cup against Australia. While watching Dhoni’s brilliance from the non-striker’s end, Virat Kohli was also speechless.
In August 2020, the 42-year-old announced his retirement from international football. Dhoni played 90 Test matches, scoring 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09. With 224 as his best score, he scored six centuries and 33 half-centuries. In Tests, he ranks 14th among Indian scorers.
ODIs, however, were Dhoni’s strongest format. During his 350 ODIs, he scored 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57. India’s best score was 183*.
With 18,426 runs, he is India’s fifth-highest scorer in ODIs (after Sachin Tendulkar). In addition, he is the 11th most successful ODI batter of all time.
His statistics are even more impressive because he scored 10,000 runs at an average of over 50 while coming down the order.
In 98 T20Is for India, he scored 1,617 runs at an average of 37.60 and a strike rate of 126.13. His best score in the format was 56.
