It was unclear whether or not it was a big risk for Mumbai Indians to buy South African youngster Dewald Brevis at the mega-auction for INR 3 crore, since he was just a teenager without any experience playing in franchise leagues.
He scored 161 points at a strike rate of 142.48 in seven games in IPL 2022. For his shot-making ability, Brevis is often referred to as ‘Baby AB.’ At the JB Marks Oval on Monday, Brevis scored 162 runs for Titans against ITEC Knights in a CSA T20 Challenge match. The score ranks third among all T20 players.
It took Brevis just 35 balls to reach the triple-figure mark after he reached the 50-run mark in 18 balls. In the 20th over, he hit 13 fours and 13 sixes. Titans finished the CSA T20 Challenge with 271/3 – the highest team score.

Earlier, Brevis mentioned the possibility of playing for Mumbai Indians. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Brevis said, “As a player, I couldn’t have asked for a better captain than Rohit Sharma.”
The 19-year-old described how he was supported and backed as a young player. “He allowed me to be myself and enjoy the game,” he said.
I think he is a great leader on and off the field. There are so many lessons to learn from his captaincy and knowledge of the game. He is an exceptional captain.” Brevis said.
Mumbai Indians’ environment was also praised by him. “It was such an honor to be part of MI’s team atmosphere on and off the field. There was so much fun, laughter and bonding between everyone in the MI family.” he said.
MI made me feel so welcome and comfortable in this team. I was able to be myself in front of everyone,” he said.
