Javagal Srinath: An amusing incident took place on Sunday in Ranchi involving Javagal Srinath, the referee for the 2nd ODI between India and South Africa. Srinath forgot to hand over the coin at the toss to India’s stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan and South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj.
Match referees are responsible for giving the toss to the host team’s captain (Dhawan in this instance). The coin was not even taken out of Srinath’s pocket because he was lost in his own world.
The moment Srinath realized his mistake, he took the coin out of his pocket and handed it to Dhawan. Nevertheless, both captains poked fun at Srinath with this opportunity.

Two changes were made by Team India for the 2nd ODI. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravi Bishnoi were replaced by Shahbaz Ahmed and Washington Sundar.
As he called the tos, India’s stand-in skipper Dhawan said: “Actually, we would have bowled first, there will be dew in the second innings, and we will take advantage of it. We have made two changes today. Washington Sundar has entered and Shahbaz Ahmed has made his debut. Ruturaj and Ravi Bishnoi are out.”
The tourists won the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Although wicket-keeper Sanju Samson batted bravely, the hosts could only score 140 after being set 250 runs.
The snarling knock Ruturaj Gaikwad played at the top of the order in the first ODI had earned him a lot of criticism. Team management decided to bench him in the second ODI after his performance in the opener.
