Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob: At least ten people were killed and 41 injured in a truck-bus collision in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday.
Of the injured, 12 were shifted to the Trauma Center in Lucknow, while others are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob can be seen crying while interacting with the families of the injured. In the video, a tearful Ms Jacob inquires about the health of a child injured in the accident, while instructing officials to ensure her treatment.
Born in Thiruvananthapuram, Jacob is a 2004 batch IAS officer. She was in the news two weeks ago when a video of her inspecting waterlogging on the streets of Lucknow went viral on social media.
According to the UP Police, the accident happened on the Aira Bridge on National Highway 730. A bus going from Dhaurhara to Lucknow collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction.
President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi both expressed their grief and offered their condolences to the families of the victims.
“Deeply saddened by the news of the death of several people in a road accident in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the accident and the injured recover quickly. “The message on the official Twitter handle of the President said.
“Pained by the accident in Lakhimpur Kheri, UP. Condolences to the bereaved families. Wishing speedy recovery to the injured. ₹ 2 lakh each from PMNRF will be given to the next of kin of the deceased. ₹ 50,000 will be given to the injured.” PM Modi said.
Who is IAS Roshan Jacob?
Lucknow Commissioner Roshan Jacob’s video has gone viral on social media, where he can be seen inspecting water logging issues in the city after heavy rains.
Roshan Jacob is 45 years old, she hails from Kerala. He was born in Trivandrum.
Roshan Jacob, a 2004 batch IAS officer, took charge as the District Magistrate in-charge of Lucknow on April 17 after the serving DM tested positive for COVID-19.
His parents, mother Elemma Varghese and his father TK Jacob were government employees in Kerala.
Jacob, her parents are single children. She attended Sarvodaya Vidyalaya School in Trivandrum before joining the Government College for Women for graduation and later did her Masters in English in the Department of English at the University of Kerala.
He has done his PhD as UGC – Junior Research Fellow (JRF). Jacob completed his PhD while in service.
Jacob is the mother of two and a son and a daughter. She is married to her batch mate, Dr Arindam Bhattacharya, an Indian Foreign Service officer posted in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in Delhi.
She is also a diplomat who is credited with being the first Indian to write a book in Mandarin Chinese.
