Tahawwur Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman sought for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, can be extradited to India, a US court ruled.

According to the order dated May 16, Judge Jacqueline Chooljian of US District Court in Central District of Los Angeles concluded that Rana, who is 62 years old, is extraditable for the charges for which extradition has been requested and for which the United States is proceeding.
The Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA) is investigating his role in the 26/11 attacks carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in 2008.
For his role in these attacks, he was arrested in the US on an extradition request from India.
Through diplomatic channels, the NIA is prepared to initiate proceedings to bring him to India.
During the court hearings, federal prosecutors have argued that Rana was aware that his childhood friend Pakistani-American David Coleman Headley was involved with Lashkar-e-Taiba and that by providing Headley with cover for his activities, he was supporting the terrorist organization and its members.
She was aware of Headley’s meetings, what was discussed, and some of the targets of the attacks.
There is probable cause that Rana committed the substantive crime of commissioning a terrorist act, according to the US government.
In contrast, Rana’s attorney opposed extradition.
The 2008 Mumbai terror attacks killed 166 people, including six Americans, who were attacked and killed at iconic and vital locations throughout Mumbai during a 60-hour siege by 10 Pakistani terrorists.
