Fast bowler Umran Malik was handed India’s first cap ahead of the first T20 International against Ireland in Malahide on Sunday. The 22-year-old Malik received his first cap from Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar. BCCI shared pictures of Malik taking off the cap. BCCI captioned the post, “A dream come true moment!! Congratulations to Umran Malik, who is all set to make his T20I debut for #TeamIndia.”
Umran Malik International Debut: Malik was selected for the T20I series against South Africa but did not get a game.
He was included in the Indian team after a successful IPL season in which he took 22 wickets and impressed everyone with his raw pace.
India will take on Ireland in two T20Is starting with the first match of the series on Sunday. The second match will be played on Tuesday.
Hardik Pandya leads India in the series, with the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant preparing for the rescheduled fifth Test in Birmingham in England.
India and Ireland have played each other three times in the format, with India winning all three matches.
