As part of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, a government school teacher in Tripura made an idol of Lord Ganesha using syringes. It is Samiran Dey’s goal to raise awareness about drug abuse in the state.
Through his idols, Mr Dey tries to convey a social message.
In response to the rise in drug use among youth, Mr Dey created a Lord Ganesha idol using syringes.
To the idol, the teacher has added the text “Say No to Drugs.”.
According to Samiran Dey, “I have been making idols for the past 25 years.”. My work has always been intended to convey a social message. I am giving a social message about the dangers of drugs to young generations this time.”
He added, “It has been seen that many young generations are spoiling their future after they get trapped in drug addiction. As a result of my work, I hope to raise awareness among young people.”
It is important for young people to know how drugs are affecting their lives and society. Furthermore, if anyone in a family consumes drugs, the whole family suffers. This social message “Say No to Drugs” is intended to create awareness, particularly among youth, since youth are tomorrow’s leaders,” Mr Dey explained.
According to Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha, in the last three years, 2,131 people in the state have been arrested for cases related to Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS).
India has seen a 70 percent increase in narcotic consumption in the past eight years, and approximately 100 million substance addicts live there. One of the reasons for the increase in crime is the rising drug abuse in the country.
