Virat Kohli a Team Man: Virat Kohli is a world-renowned cricket player who recently regained his batting form with a century against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022. He continued his great performance against Australia and South Africa as well.
However, what increased his popularity even more was his selfless act of disregarding personal milestones and telling Dinesh Karthik to keep the strike in the last over for the team’s benefit. Even though he went unbeaten on 49 runs in the 2nd T20I against South Africa at Guwahati, this act gained him a lot more traction than a ‘half-century’.
1. Virat Kohli declaring on 254*
In reply, openers KL Rahul (79) and Shikhar Dhawan (94) provided good start while team man Virat Kohli asked coach Ravi Shastri to declare. As Mayank Agarwal opened the innings against Bangladesh in the first test at Indore in 2019, he looked in sublime form. Virat Kohli signaled from the dressing room for Mayank Agarwal to go for a triple century after he reached his double century. After scoring 243 runs with 28 fours and 8 sixes, Agarwal was dismissed for 243 runs. Kohli’s decision was criticized by some, with former India batsman VVS Laxman saying that it is not easy to score a triple century and I think it is not right to put so much pressure on him in his debut series.
4. Denying strike while on 49* against South Africa in 2nd T20I
In the second T20I at Guwahati, Virat was on 49* as Dinesh Karthik was on strike for the last over. DK asked Kohli if he wanted a strike after playing two dots and smashing a four and a six. Despite Kohli’s denial, India posted 237 in 20 overs with DK continuing the onslaught. Fans would hope that the ‘King’ would end the drought for an ICC trophy.
This is just a small sampling of the instances in which Kohli has shown he is an absolute team player. Apart from this, the batter has switched positions 24 times across T20Is to accommodate various youngsters. The fans would be hoping that the ‘King’ finally ends the drought for an ICC trophy.
