After Chief Minister MK Stalin moved a resolution asking the Speaker to take only the speech prepared by the state government, and to take out the parts that Ravi added or skipped from the customary address, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi left the assembly today.

The Assembly voted to record only the Governor’s original speech, which was prepared by the state government and translated by the Speaker. After the national anthem was sung, RN Ravi walked out in a huff.
The Governor had skipped parts of the address prepared by the state government that had references to secularism, describing Tamil Nadu as a haven of peace, and mentioning leaders like Periyar, BR Ambedkar, K Kamaraj, CN Annadurai, and Karunanidhi, then the Chief Minister moved the resolution. The DMK’s ‘Dravidian model’ wasn’t read either.
Stalin said the Governor’s action was “against Assembly traditions”.
The DMK’s allies — Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), CPI, and CPI(M) — boycotted the Governor’s address after protesting, by raising slogans, his delay in clearing bills, including those banning online gambling and limiting the Governor’s power to appoint vice presidents. There are 21 bills pending with the governor that were passed by the Assembly.
Mr Ravi was booed in the Assembly with “quit Tamil Nadu” slogans. MLAs from the ruling DMK also raised slogans saying “don’t impose BJP, RSS ideas”.
Karti P Chidambaram, a Congress MP, called for the Governor’s removal.

DMK MLAs also protested the Governor’s recent comment that Tamil Nadu should be called “Thamizhagam”.
“Unfortunately in Tamil Nadu there has been regressive politics that we are Dravidians, and by virtue of the Constitution, we have been brought togetherIn half a century, the entire effort has been created to reinforce the narrative that we are not part of the nation but an integral part of it.n. And even a different kind of narrative has been created. Everything applicable for the whole of the country, Tamil Nadu will say no,” the Governor had said on Wednesday while speaking at a function held in Raj Bhavan to felicitate the organisers and volunteers of Kashi-Tamil Sangamam.
It’s a habit. So many theses have been written–all fake and bad fiction. This must be broken. Truth must prevail. As a matter of fact, Tamil Nadu is the land that holds the soul of Bharat, the identity of Bharat. “Thamizhagam would be a better name for it,” he said.
Governor Ravi and the state government have been at odds, with the ruling party accusing Mr Ravi of being a BJP puppet. TR Balu had slammed Mr Ravi earlier for his state renaming suggestion, saying he shouldn’t act like a “second state president of the BJP.”
He makes controversial comments all the time to create confusion, separation, and conflict. “The governor says people have been cheated for 50 years by Dravidian politics,” Mr Balu said. “It’s highly condemnable, because he should say it from the BJP State headquarters Kamalalayam, not Raj Bhavan.”
