Musk, the billionaire owner of Twitter, announced today that he will rebrand the platform to create a “super app” like China’s WeChat. Musk tweeted, “We will soon bid adieu to twitter and, gradually, to all the birds.”

“If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make it go live worldwide tomorrow,” he tweeted.

On its website, Twitter says its blue bird logo is “our most recognizable asset,” adding “That’s why we’re so protective of it.”

Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog temporarily replaced the bird in April, boosting the meme coin’s market value by up to $4 billion.

 When he announced the new CEO Linda Yaccarino in April, he tweeted, “Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app.”.

“Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the app that does everything,” he had said in October.

Since Tesla tycoon Musk bought Twitter last year and sacked many of its staff, Twitter has suffered repeated technical failures. The social media company has been making several last-ditch attempts to revive the platform with shrinking ad revenue.

Still losing money, the company is experimenting with alternative business models to advertising. Twitter Blue’s premium subscription, which costs $8 per month, has not been well received. This month, Twitter began paying some Twitter Blue subscribers a share of ad revenue based on how much engagement their tweets receive. Accounts that interact heavily with Musk were rewarded.

Just days earlier, Musk announced xAI, a new artificial intelligence company he claims will “understand the universe.”

After accusing companies like OpenAI and Google of developing AI without considering the risks to humans, Musk announced the formation of xAI.
