After getting some concrete leads, Delhi police sent a team to Bengaluru, Karnataka, to catch Shankar Mishra.

Despite turning off his phone, he was using social media to communicate with his friends, giving the police an opening to find him.

Sources say Mishra used his credit/debit card at least once.

A New York-Delhi Air India flight on November 26 allegedly saw Shankar Mishra unzip his pants and urinate on an elderly woman. Afterward, he pleaded with the woman not to report him to the police, saying it would affect his family.

Only this week, Air India filed a police complaint and said there hadn’t been any more flare-ups or confrontations, and the crew didn’t call police after landing because “the female passenger’s perceptions were respected.” Mishra was banned from flying for 30 days, which sparked outrage on social media.

As per her complaint, which is part of the FIR (First Information Report), the complainant said she didn’t want to see Mishra’s face and was “stunned” when he was brought before her and started crying and apologizing profusely. She also said the crew was “deeply unprofessional” and not proactive in handling a “very sensitive and traumatic situation.”

According to Shankar Mishra’s lawyers, he exchanged messages with the woman who filed the complaint, and even paid her $ 15,000 and cleaned her belongings. After a month, the woman’s daughter returned the money, saying they couldn’t take it.

Wells Fargo, Mishra’s employer, has also fired him, saying the allegations were “deeply disturbing”. The California-based multinational firm had him as vice-president of its India chapter.

Wells Fargo holds employees to the highest standards of professionalism and conduct, and we find these allegations deeply disturbing. This individual has been terminated.”

After widespread shock and disgust, Air India officials and the crew of the flight have been asked to explain their handling of the incident.

DGCA, the aviation regulator, warns airline staff they’ll be punished if they don’t handle unruly passengers.
