Sania Mirza Mate Pavic Advance to Second Round of Wimbledon
Sania Mirza Mate Pavic: Indian stars Sania Mirza, who is making her final Wimbledon appearance, and Mate Pavik advanced to the second round of the mixed doubles event on Friday with hard-fought wins over David Vega Hernandez and Natella Zalamidze.
The Indo-Croatia pair registered a 6-4 3-6, 7-6(3) win in the first round match.
Six-time Grand Slam winners Sania and Pavic, the current men’s doubles Wimbledon champions, faced stiff resistance from their opponents but were able to break them in the eighth game.
Since then, the Indian and his Croatian partner Pavic, who is also a Tokyo 2020 gold medalist, kept their cool to take the lead. The second set saw a tough fight in the initial round.
However, Zalamidze and Hernandez broke Sania’s serve in the seventh game and gathered momentum to equalize.
Both the teams showed their best in the deciding set and had an entertaining spectacle.
In the tenth game, the Indo-Croatian pair were on the verge of winning the match but their opponents saved four match points in the longest game of the competition.
Sania and Pavic stepped up their game in the super tiebreaker and raced for a healthy lead and eventually sealed their place in the next round.
The 35-year-old Sania, who is playing her last season of professional tennis, is in her final Wimbledon tournament.

The pair of Sania and Pavik broke 11 aces out of seven of their rivals.

First round exit at 2022 Wimbledon doubles
Sania had suffered a first round exit along with Czech Lucie Haradeka in the women’s doubles edition of the ongoing tournament on Wednesday.
The pair lost in three sets to Magdalena Frech and Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-4, 4-6, 2-6.
Sania is competing in her last edition of Wimbledon.

Sania had a great start at the 2022 Australian Open alongside two-time mixed doubles winner Rajeev Ram.
The Indo-American pair defeated Serbia’s Alexandra Krunic and Nikola Kasic 6-3, 7-6 (3).
They defeated the wildcard pair of Alain Perez and Matvey Middlecup 7-6(8), 6-4.
However, their run in the quarter ended, as they lost to eventual winners Jamie Forlis and Jason Kubler.

Mirza is India’s most successful female tennis player of all time.
To this day, she is known for her subtle forehand and volleying skills.
She holds a total of three Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles and as many in mixed doubles.
She emerged as the first Indian woman to hold the number one ranking (either singles or doubles).

Teaming up with Jamie Murray, Venus Williams enjoyed a solid comeback. She defeated Elisja Rosolska and Michael Venus 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3 in the first round of mixed doubles at Wimbledon.
