Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 get new performance profiles

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 smartphones have already received a battery boost with their new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, which the brand claims can deliver a 30 percent increase in battery life. But One UI 4.1.1 also brings a new battery-boosting performance profile, which is said to improve the battery life of these foldables even more. The news comes that pre-orders of both Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 have gone live in India today.

As reported by 9to5Google, the new performance profile for the foldable can be found in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4’s Settings app, where users can now choose between two profiles – “Standard and” Lite. The new profiles replace the earlier ones which can be found in Settings > Battery & device care > Battery > More battery settings > Advanced processing on the Galaxy Flip 3.

While the “Enhanced Processing” mode will speed up the phone’s overall processing (in terms of apps and smoothness), Samsung’s description made it clear that it uses more battery life to deliver the same. The new performance profiles found in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 models give the user a choice between “Standard” processing, which according to Samsung’s description is recommended for the balance of performance and battery life, or “Lite” Where the system prioritizes battery life and cooling efficiency over processing speed. Compared to the current models, the new phones basically allow the user to prioritize battery life over performance, compared to the previous mode which basically allowed a speed boost with the default set to conserve battery life gives.

It is not clear how much of a difference there is between the two performance profiles. But a Reddit user Dudi4poLFr put up a thread explaining that there is a noticeable effect between Standard and Lite mode, but also concluding that Lite mode cuts down on high-performance cores and Adreno GPUs, when running benchmarks. Reduces power consumption. The user concluded that even when Lite mode is on, “the phone feels fast and responsive” and this would only affect games and demanding 3D applications.
