Salt Bae, a popular Instagram chef, also got on the field and interacted with players. As he took a selfie with Messi, cameras caught their awkward exchange as the 35-year-old looked noticeably irritated.
Despite being ignored twice, the World Cup winner finally obliged. In addition to posing with the FIFA trophy, Salt Bae, whose real name is Nusret Gokce, grabbed it from other players. Football fans called the scene “embarrassing” and said the chef showed “no respect” for the trophy.
In response to the backlash, the chef and influencer posted a video of him meeting and posing with the Argentina captain. Messi meets Salt Bae at a restaurant in the video.
He then extends his arm to Salt Bae for a handshake before hugging him. Paul Pogba is also in the video. At the restaurant, the two players were eating. It is to be noted that the celebrity chef did not mention the time when the video was taken. Nonetheless, his followers were quick to point out that it was taken in 2018.
He captioned the video, “The champion @leomessi #saltbae #saltlife #salt.” The video has over 16 million views and 11 lakh likes since it was shared. Many internet users weren’t happy with the celebrity chef.
