Trinamool Congress spokesperson Saket Gokhale was arrested by Gujarat Police over a tweet about the Morbi bridge collapse, Mamata Banerjee’s party claims.

In a tweet in which he shared what looked like newspaper clippings saying “RTI revealed the PM’s visit to Morbi cost 30 crore”, the government’s fact-check unit recently identified Mr Gokhale’s tweet.
According to the Press Information Bureau’s fact-check of December 1, this claim is false.
A senior leader of Bengal’s ruling party, Derek O’Brien, tweeted that Saket Gokhale was picked up by Gujarat Police after taking a flight from New Delhi to Jaipur in Rajasthan.
On Tuesday morning, he called his mother and told her they were taking him to Ahmedabad and he would be there by noon today. The police let him make a two-minute phone call and then confiscated his phone and everything else he owned,” Mr O’Brien said.
According to him, the Ahmedabad [police] cyber cell brought the case against the RTI activist-turned-politician over Saket’s tweet about the Morbi bridge collapse. He did not specify which tweet it was.
Over 130 people were killed on October 30 when a colonial-era suspension bridge collapsed in Morbi, Gujarat, just four days after it had been reopened. Due to the renovation contractor’s alleged non-compliance with the norms, the investigation points towards a failure of the municipal authorities.
A Rajya Sabha member Saket Gokhale went on to say: “All this cannot silence the All India Trinamool Congress and the Opposition. The BJP is taking political vendetta to a whole new level.”
Neither the BJP nor the Gujarat government have responded.
According to the news agency PTI, Jaipur airport police in-charge Digpal Singh said, “We have no information. Nobody has informed us.”
A few hours after polling for the Gujarat assembly elections ended, the alleged arrest took place.
