Russia Used Iranian Drones: As part of its apparent revenge strike after the blast on the Crimean bridge, Russia bombed cities across Ukraine during rush hour on Monday, killing civilians and damaging infrastructure. Volodymyr Zelensky, a Ukrainian politician, said Iran used drones in the attack.
The head of Ukraine’s military reported that 75 missiles targeted the capital Kyiv and cities in the south and west. A major attack on the capital was carried out for the first time since Russia abandoned its attempt to capture it during the early weeks of the war.
In addition to targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Russian strikes were timed to inflict the most damage among its people.
In a video address on social media, Zelensky said that the second target was the people. “We are dealing with terrorists today. Dozens of missiles and Iranian Shaheds are in the air. They have two targets.” he added.
After bombardments targeted energy facilities and critical infrastructure in Lviv, the city’s mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, reported that electricity and hot water were cut off.
A massive crater had destroyed an important intersection in Kyiv. There were damaged cars and buildings at the scene of the destruction.
Following the crossing of Ukrainian airspace by Russian cruise missiles, Moldova’s ambassador summoned the Russian ambassador for an explanation. Moldova’s Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu posted on Twitter this morning that three cruise missiles launched on Ukraine this morning had crossed Moldova’s airspace.
An attack on a Crimea bridge linking Russia to Crimea that killed three people a day earlier was blamed on Ukraine.
Putin described Saturday’s Crimea bridge bombing as a terrorism act and said it was perpetrated and sponsored by the Ukrainian secret services.
Local news agencies have reported that the Russian leader will meet with his security council later on Monday.
Neither Zelensky nor officials in Kyiv have directly claimed responsibility for the incident in their nightly addresses on Saturday.
