Several years ago, a photographer named Jiah Ali posted a photo of a blue-eyed tea seller from Pakistan on social media, making him an overnight sensation. Arshad Khan, a chaiwala from London, has now opened up a cafe as well.

In 2016, Mr Khan went viral for his striking looks, and opened Cafe Chaiwala on East London’s Ilford Lane, which is predominantly populated by Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. According to a press release, the cafe features traditional and cultural South Asian elements, including car art and a hand-decorated Vespa, desi paintings on the wall, and an interior that’s both modern and Dhabba.
In response to the cafe’s opening, Mr Khan said, “I am planning my visit and would love to brew tea for my fans. I have received thousands of requests for a London visit. Our first international Chai shop is now open on Ilford Lane and the response is already huge. It was decided to open Ilford Lane with the Durrani brothers since it is home to a large number of Pakistanis and Indians who love Chai. I will be in London soon.”
To promote South Asian culture and to give the real feel and look of what Chai cafes should be like, Cafe Chaiwala has a proper design and style.
On his Instagram account, Khan has been sharing his journey as an entrepreneur.
After Mr Khan became famous with the viral picture, he was offered several modelling and acting gigs. Chaiwala opened ‘Cafe Chaiwala Rooftop’ in Islamabad in 2020 while he ventured into the entertainment business.
According to his previous interview with Urdu News, the name ‘chaiwala’ holds a special place in his heart because it is an integral part of his identity and serves as a reminder of his journey.
