Congress Leader Dies: In Maharashtra’s Nanded, a Congress leader died of a heart attack while walking in the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
As general secretary of the Congress Seva Dal, Krishna Kumar Pandey was 75 years old. Mr Pandey’s dedication to the country will inspire Congress workers for years to come, according to Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the yatra. It is an irreparable loss for the Congress party to lose such a dedicated leader as Mallikarjun Kharge said he was “shocked” by his death.
A senior Congress leader and the party’s communications chief, Jairam Ramesh, shared the unfortunate news of Congress Leader Dies earlier.
“In this morning’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, Krishna Kumar Pandey, General Secretary of Seva Dal, walked with @digvijaya_28 and me holding the national flag. After a few minutes, as is customary, he handed the flag to a colleague and moved back. Afterwards, he collapsed…,” he said.
He was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved, Ramesh said. “He was a staunch Congressman who often challenged the RSS in Nagpur. It is a most humbling moment for us all,” the Congress leader wrote along with a video of party supporters paying respect to the deceased.
In his last moments, Mr Pandey held the national flag, Mr Gandhi expressed his condolences to his family.
Two months after starting in Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu for Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Gandhi’s 3,570 km yatra has entered Maharashtra. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana have already been crossed by the march.
Congress is making a desperate attempt to rally support ahead of the 2024 general election to challenge the BJP.
Congress has invited Sharad Pawar and former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to join the yatra, both allies of the party.
As a result of his recent hospitalization, Mr Pawar’s participation is uncertain. Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray may join the yatra, according to Shiv Sena leaders.
