Rahul Gandhi At Charminar: Rahul Gandhi unfurled the national flag in front of the iconic Charminar on Tuesday, over 32 years after Rajiv Gandhi started the Sadbhavna Yatra from the same spot.
A massive crowd gathered around Charminar to witness Rahul Gandhi unfurl the tricolour. The event was attended by the Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, senior leader Digvijaya Singh, and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Revanth Reddy.
A sea of national and party flags dotted the road leading up to Charminar as Rahul Gandhi arrived to cheers and “Bharat Jodo” slogans.
A floral tribute was also paid to the photograph of his father Rajiv Gandhi on the stage by the Gandhi scion.
According to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, Rahul Gandhi unfurled the tricolour at the same spot where Rajiv Gandhi started the Sadbhavna Yatra in 1990. The Congress raises the national flag here every year on that day, he said, adding that this year they were unable to do so on October 19.
After an afternoon break at the Legacy Palace at Bahadurpura in Hyderabad, the padayatra resumed from Matha Temple in Shamshabad on Tuesday morning.
The yatra’s night halt will be at the Gandhi Ideology Centre in Bowenpally.
