Rahul Gandhi today distanced his party from Digvijaya Singh’s comments questioning India’s surgical strikes and called them “ridiculous”.

On the sidelines of his Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi told reporters, “We disagree with Digvijaya Singh’s views. Our views are above Digvijaya Singh’s.”

The party’s views are generated from a conversation. Digvijaya Singh’s views are outlying views, not the party’s views. We’re sure – the armed forces do their job, and they do it exceptionally well. They don’t need to provide proof,” he said.

In response to Digvijaya Singh’s comments at a Bharat Jodo Yatra rally on Monday, Rahul Gandhi clarified.

“They talk about surgical strikes – that we killed this many people. But there’s no proof. They’re peddling lies,” Mr Singh said.

Congress tried to minimize the damage by saying the remarks weren’t representative of its views.

He also said: “I’m a huge fan of the armed forces.”

But the BJP slammed him and the Congress for questioning the army as “anti-national.” Rahul Gandhi also apologized.

Congress leaders are doing Bharat Todo (divide India) on Rahul Gandhi’s orders. Digvijaya Singh has become a symbol of venomous remarks. Trust in the army is unbreakable and above politics. You can’t ask for proof repeatedly if the Army says there was a surgical strike. “This shows you don’t trust our Army,” said BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia.

A BJP leader said, “Congress has a reputation for making irresponsible statements. But if they speak against the Indian Army, it won’t be tolerated. It seems Rahul Gandhi and Digvijaya Singh have been blinded by their hatred of Narendra Modi.”

In 2016, India launched surgical strikes after 18 soldiers were killed in a terror attack on an army base in Uri.

Jaish-e-Mohammed was blamed for the February 2019 Pulwama attack on a security convoy.

India retaliated with air strikes in Pakistan’s Balakot days after the attack, followed by an aerial dogfight.
