Rahul Gandhi Detained: Rahul Gandhi was today detained when he led the protest and sat on a road in the heart of the capital while his mother Sonia Gandhi was being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate.

Congress leaders, surrounded by several policemen, sat on the Rajpath, a high-security avenue near Parliament and top government offices, as they protested over a range of issues ranging from price hike and GST to targeting of opposition leaders by investigative agencies.

The Congress shared the image of Rahul Gandhi along with a black and white photo from the archives, showing former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi – his grandmother – in a similar protest. “History is repeating,” the party tweeted.

Rahul Gandhi told the media, “I am not giving arrest, I am protesting for price rise, unemployment, people’s voice…” When he was sitting alone – the others with him have already been taken into custody was taken – he was seen taking out his phone and clicking a photo of the policemen.

Modi-ji Is King, Police State

After a standoff that lasted for about an hour, the Congress MP was taken into custody by the policemen and made him sit in a bus along with other detained MPs.

“India is a police state, (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi is a king,” said Rahul Gandhi, led by the police.

In another part of the city, his mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi was at the Enforcement Directorate for the second round of questioning in connection with the National Herald case.

Sonia Gandhi was accompanied by her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to the probe agency’s office. Rahul Gandhi also went there before joining the dharna in Parliament.

Congress MPs were protesting in Parliament to “silence” the opposition, a day after four party MPs were suspended for the entire monsoon session. The MPs planning to march towards Rashtrapati Bhavan were stopped at Vijay Chowk square.

Congress said, “We are protesting on the instructions of the police. All this is a conspiracy by PM Modi and Amit Shah to completely destroy the opposition and suppress our voice. We will not be afraid, our fight will continue.” Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
