In Russia, the FSB security service filed a criminal case against Wagner chief and ordered private military companies to ignore his orders.

Prigozhin claimed today that he had taken over Rostov-on-Don in an attempt to oust the military leadership amid what the authorities called an armed rebellion.

As a result of the Wagner group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin taking control of Rostov-on-Don’s military headquarters, security has been tightened in several major Russian cities, including Moscow.

Putin vowed harsh punishment against those rebelling, calling it “internal treason.” He also acknowledged the difficult situation in Rostov.

He called the mutiny a “stab in the back” caused by excessive ambitions and vested interests.

On the basis of information received, the Moscow Mayor announced that anti-terror measures would be taken.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, who has been embroiled in a feud with the defence ministry for months, accused Moscow of targeting his forces with deadly missile strikes.

His forces would “destroy everything” standing in the way of their plans to topple the country’s military leadership. Wagner’s mercenaries have taken control of the military headquarters in Rostov and are now planning to march to Moscow.

In his most audacious challenge to President Vladimir Putin since the start of the Ukrainian offensive last year, he urged Russians to join his forces.
