Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), ED officials are also investigating other health officials associated with the scam.

A top IAS officer’s home was raided today by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged money laundering case in the Jal Jeevan Mission scam.

A total of 25 locations in Jaipur and Dausa have been raided by the probe agency. Among them is the home of Subodh Agarwal, the Additional Chief Secretary in the PHE department. A Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) investigation is also underway against other health officials involved in the scam.

Similar raids had also been carried out by the ED in September.

An ACB FIR alleges that Padamchand Jain and Mahesh Mittal, proprietors of Shree Shyam Tubewell Company and Shree Ganpati Tubewell Company, among others, bribed public officials to receive illegal protection, bids, and approvals for various PHED projects and to conceal irregularities.

It was also alleged that the suspects bought stolen items from Haryana and used them in tenders and contracts, submitting fake work completion letters to IRCON to obtain PHED contracts.

Providing safe drinking water to households is the goal of the Jal Jeevan Mission. As part of the scheme, Rajasthan’s PHED is implementing it.

In an attack on the Center and the ED, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot accused them of using raids across the country to intimidate opposition leaders. In his words, the raids were like locust swarms from Pakistan that destroyed everything they touched.

On the same day that the ED searched Mr Dotasra’s Jaipur and Sikar homes, Mr Gehlot’s remarks come after the ED summoned the sons of Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra over money laundering charges.

In addition to Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, and Telangana will elect 200-member assemblies on November 25, with the votes counted on December 3.
