Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for the US today on a historic state visit – the highest diplomatic reception reserved for closest allies. It is also expected that a technology transfer deal on jet engines will be made during the visit.
During the next three days, PM Modi will address the US Congress, meet with business leaders and Indian expats, and attend a state dinner at the White House with US President Biden.
The Prime Minister will address the US Congress for the second time on Thursday. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate invited him to deliver the speech.

The Prime Minister will lead a yoga event at the UN building on Wednesday, World Yoga Day. A gathering of expat leaders from across the country will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington on Friday.
PM Modi is being welcomed by hundreds of Indian-Americans across the country, including Times Square in New York and Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
PM Modi tweeted that people from all walks of life have expressed their enthusiasm about his upcoming trip to the USA. The tweet concluded, “I thank them for their kind words. Such diverse support underlines the depth of the Indo-US relationship.”
In the meantime, General Electric hopes to produce the cutting-edge GE-F414 jet engine in India through a multimillion-dollar deal with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The engine powers the F/A-18 Hornet, the most popular fighter in the US Navy.
Indian airspace will benefit greatly from a manufacturing unit for jet engines, which is widely considered the holy grail of aviation technology. This level of technology has never been transferred outside the US.
PM Modi is the third Indian leader to visit the US on a state visit. In June 1963, Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was president, and in November 2009, Manmohan Singh was prime minister.
