Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma: BJP leaders are giving hate speeches openly while AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi remains silent.
BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma called yesterday in a public address in Delhi for a “total boycott” of a community, apparently Muslims, in a hate speech, according to Mr Owaisi, the Hyderabad MP leading the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.
INDINEWS quoted Mr Owaisi as saying, “The BJP MP [Mr Verma] enjoys great blessings and confidence from the Prime Minister and that is why he feels emboldened to speak out.”
It is unfortunate that Narendra Modi will not speak. Others will, but it will not reach the ground,” he said. “In contrast to his electorate, Hindutva ideology hates those who don’t follow it.”
Supporters yesterday responded with a thumping “yes” to Mr Verma’s call for a “total boycott” of a community. At the Delhi event, BJP MP Hardeep Singh Surjewala said, “…To fix their heads, to set them straight, total boycott is the only cure. Raise your hand if you agree.”.
It has been reported that the Delhi Police have lodged a first information report against the event organisers, but not over hate speech.
BJP spokespersons will never be arrested by the police. This is a regular occurrence…The BJP has a policy that allows any genocidal call to go unchecked. The same spokesperson [Mr Verma] allegedly contributed to the Delhi riots in February 2020, according to Mr Owaisi.
According to the Hyderabad MP, “Hate speech won’t stop when it comes to the BJP and RSS.” Modi is a member of the ruling BJP, which is a part of the RSS.
Asked if he named a religious community in his remarks, Mr Verma told The Indian Express he did not. “What I said was that the families of those responsible for these killings should be boycotted. If these families run restaurants or businesses, they should be boycotted,” he said.
At a time when the country has been under pressure from the international community over how it has been treating its large Muslim population, this latest hate speech controversy is inconvenient.
It had been requested in June that India, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and 11 other nations be classified as “countries of particular concern” regarding religious freedom by the US government’s commission on religious freedom. “Biased and inaccurate” is what India called the report.
