A yoga practice that is free of copyright, patent, royalties… It is a way of life… It is flexible, you can practice alone, in a group, with a teacher or on your own… It unites, it truly unites. A yoga event at the UN building was open to all ethnicities, faiths, cultures, PM Modi said in his speech.

Science, art, and entertainment luminaries, diplomats, academicians, technocrats, and political leaders are attending the event on the UN building’s north lawn. They included the New York Mayor, three-time Grammy winner Ricky Kej, singer Falguni Shah, actors Richard Gere and Priyanka Chopra, and various UN officials.

At the Andrew Air base of Washington, he will be welcomed by Indian expats in a traditional ceremony.

The day would end with a series of meetings with industry leaders and CEOs in Washington.

During his visit to the White House on Thursday, PM Modi will attend a dinner hosted by US President Joe Biden and his family. Later, he would hold bilateral talks in the Oval Office after inspecting the Guard of Honour at the White House.

He will address a joint sitting of the US Congress in the evening. It will be his second address to a joint sitting, a rare honor for a world leader and a first for an Indian.

Yesterday, PM Modi arrived in New York and met with Nobel laureates, academicians, industry leaders, authors, mathematicians and medical professionals.

“Met with a group of people affiliated with key think tanks. We discussed policy making and emerging global trends. Emphasised the positive changes in India and how they are being driven by our youth,” PM Modi tweeted after the meeting.

Earlier, John Kirby, US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications,  said PM Modi’s visit “will strengthen our two countries’ commitment to a free, open, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific, as well as our shared commitment to developing strategic technology partnerships in defence, clean energy, and space”.

In the Indo-Pacific Quad, India’s growing commitment demonstrates a new and growing willingness to partner with the United States to protect and advance a shared vision of free, open, and rules-based global order,” he said.
