Today marks the beginning of the five-day “Amrit Kaal” session of parliament. Among the topics to be discussed is India’s evolution into a parliamentary democracy. The special session will consider eight bills

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the discussion on 75 years of parliament in the Lok Sabha and senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Today, Prime Minister Modi told the media that the session may be short in duration, but big in scope.

Soon after the House met at 11 am, heated exchanges began. Om Birla urged members to allow proceedings to proceed. In addition, he assured them that he would look into their concerns.

A function will be held in Central Hall today to celebrate the rich legacy of the Parliament of India and resolve to make India a developed country by 2047. A photo session will follow.

A new parliament building will be used after today’s function in the Central Hall. There may be a small puja tomorrow since it is Ganesh Chaturthi.

This session’s legislative agenda will include the Post Office Bill, the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, and the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill.

The national flag was raised on the new building by Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday. Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Saha, also attended.

There were no appearances by Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge. In honor of his 73rd birthday, the Prime Minister had a full schedule. In Hyderabad, Mr Kharge was attending a meeting of the Working Committee, the party’s highest decision-making body.

Many regional parties pushed for the tabling of women’s reservation bills at an all-party meeting held in the evening, including Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal and K Chandrasekhar Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

A government announcement earlier this week put an end to days of speculation about the country’s name change or a “One Nation One Election” bill. Opposition members vehemently disagreed with the government’s claim that there is no tradition of revealing special session agendas.

Opposition leaders said it was time to prioritize critical issues as the BJP tried to divert attention from critical issues through the special session of parliament. In her earlier letter to PM Modi, Sonia Gandhi listed nine issues for the special session, including the violence in Manipur and wrestlers’ protest.
