Ben Stokes-led England are currently in Pakistan for a historic Test series. This is the first time in 17 years that England have toured Pakistan and the three-match series will be part of the World Test Championship. Ahead of the first match of the series on 1 December, Stokes announced on Monday that he would donate his match fee for the entire series to the Pakistan flood appeal.

Stokes wrote on Twitter, ‘I am donating the match fees of this Test series to the Pakistan Flood Appeal.

In his full statement, the England Test captain said: “It is great to be in Pakistan for the first time for this historic series. It is very exciting to be back here after 17 years as a Test team. There is a sense of responsibility in playing And the support group and being there is special.”

“It was very sad to see the floods that ravaged Pakistan earlier this year and had a significant impact on the country and the people,” he said.

Further in his statement Stokes said: “Sport has given me a lot in my life and I feel it is only right to give something back to go beyond cricket. I will donate my match fee from this Test series to Pakistan floods Appeal.”

“Hopefully, this donation can go towards the reconstruction of the worst-affected areas of Pakistan,” Ben Stokes said.

The England cricket team arrived in Pakistan in the early hours of Sunday to play three Tests in the country for the first time since 2005. England had played a successful Twenty20 series in Pakistan two months earlier, but had declined to play a Test match there for 17 years because of the uncertainty protection status.

They were due to tour Pakistan last year, but withdrew after New Zealand abandoned their tour minutes before the first One Day International, citing a security alert.

The three-match series – part of the World Test Championship – will begin in Rawalpindi from December 1 with the second Test in Multan (December 9-13) and the third in Karachi (December 17-21).

England squad: Ben Stokes (capt), James Anderson, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ben Foakes, Will Jacks, Keaton Jennings, Jack Leach, Liam Livingstone, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Mark Wood, Rehan Ahmed.
