Netherlands beats South Africa: In the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 stages, the Netherlands upset one of the favourites to qualify from Group 2, South Africa. In their 20 overs, the Netherlands reached 158 for 4 thanks to Colin Ackermann’s unbeaten 41. Despite being expected to win, the Dutch bowling effort helped to snatch a victory from nowhere for the Netherlands.
Due to the loss, South Africa were knocked out of the tournament, while the Pakistan-Bangladesh game became a virtual qualifier. Although no one expected the Proteas to lose, Netherlands did the unthinkable and kept Pakistan’s hopes alive in the tournament by beating Bangladesh and reaching the semifinals.
With the victory, Netherlands moved up to fourth in the points table above Bangladesh. Keeping the same position will give the Netherlands the chance to qualify directly for the next T20 World Cup without playing the qualifiers.
When Pakistani players walked down from the stands into the ground after the game, one of the Netherlands players demanded a return favor. A video of the player telling the teammate “Make sure you win so we finish 4th” went viral on Twitter.

Pakistan beat Bangladesh in their final match and reached the semi-finals of the tournament, fulfilling Netherlands’ wishes. Moreover, it has strengthened the Dutch position above Bangladesh in the table, and they are now hoping that India will beat Zimbabwe so that they can qualify for the 2024 World Cup.
