Navy Sends Ships To Ports: The Indian Navy is sending its ships to ports of almost all continents as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.

Navy officials said the ships are visiting all continents except Antarctica.

In Asia, stealth-guided missile destroyer INS Chennai and guided missile frigate INS Betwa are visiting Muscat, while patrol vessel INS Saryu is leaving for Singapore.

For Africa, the Navy is sending INS Trikand, a Talwar-class frigate, to Mombasa in Kenya, while patrol vessel INS Sumedha is visiting Perth in Australia, in North America, INS Satpura, a stealth multi-role frigate, Sailing to San Diego. US while the warship INS Tarkash is visiting the port of Rio de Janeiro in South America in Brazil.

The Navy is sending a maritime training ship INS Tarangini to London for the European continent.

In London, the crew of INS Tarangini will pay tribute to the Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the two world wars.

They will pay tribute at the Commonwealth Memorial Gates. Similarly, the crew of INS Saryu will lay a wreath at the Kranji War Memorial.

In Mombasa, Indian Navy personnel will participate in the inauguration of a memorial column on the battlefield of the Tata Tweta area, where Indian soldiers sacrificed their lives while serving as part of the East Africa Campaign of World War I.

“The 75th year of India’s independence, the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence is an opportunity to rejuvenate and re-emphasize India’s sea shores,” a Navy official said.

Officials said the 75th year of India’s independence marked by the Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an opportunity to reinvent and re-emphasize India’s coastlines.

In this direction, a large number of activities have been undertaken by the Indian Navy both at home and abroad in the last one year.

Commemorative ship visits to 75 Indian ports in the year 2021-22, President’s Fleet Review* aligning with 75th year of Independence, ‘Lokyaan 2022 (Sail Ship Expedition)’, Monumental National Flag Display in Mumbai, all coastal areas Community outreach programs ‘Freedom Runs’, sailing regattas and mountaineering and cycling expeditions in various cities across India’s districts. The Navy also honors gallantry award winners and war veterans (born in or before 1947).
