The Indian Navy got the fifth scorpion-class submarine Vagir on Tuesday, ahead of its commissioning next month.

Introducing the submarine, built under Project-75, will boost the Indian Navy’s combat capability.
Having concerns over China’s growing forays into the Indian Ocean, considered the Indian Navy’s backyard, India has been shoring up its maritime capability.
The Scorpene-designed submarines are part of Project-75.
With the Naval Group of France, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai is building the submarines.
“Launched on Nov 12, 2020, Vagir began sea trials on February 1, and we’re proud that she’s finished all major trials like weapon and sensor trials in the shortest amount of time compared to the earlier submarines,” Navy Spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said.
Construction of submarines is tricky because all equipment has to be miniaturized and must meet strict quality standards.
This is another step towards ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, Commander Madhwal said.
The submarine will be commissioned into the Indian Navy soon.
The Navy commissioned the indigenously built guided missile destroyer INS Mormugao on Sunday.
