Nasal Vaccine: From Tuesday onwards, hospitals across the country will conduct mock drills due to a spike in COVID cases in some countries. This is according to the union health ministry. It added that revised guidelines are being prepared for Christmas and New Year.

The pandemic isn’t over yet. During the holiday season, it’s crucial to promote COVID-appropriate behavior.

According to official sources, the Union Health Ministry approved Bharat Biotech’s intranasal Covid vaccine for inclusion in the vaccination programme as a booster dose for people over 18. Covishield and Covaxin users can take the nasal vaccine as a booster.

Private clinics will offer the needle-free Nasal Vaccine. Sources say it will go live on Co-WIN on Friday. In November, the Drug Controller General of India approved BBV154 for restricted use in an emergency situation for those over 18.

“There has been a trend – COVID spreads from China, Korea, Brazil, and then comes to South Asia. In 20 to 35 days, it reached India. We have to stay vigilant,” the health ministry said, adding that 10 countries make up 81.2 percent of the cases worldwide. The list is topped by Japan. In China, the R number (how many people one sick person can infect) is 16.

Researchers said the outbreak was caused by weak vaccines, low vaccination rates, lack of natural immunity, and abrupt curb lifting.

In some parts of the world, COVID cases are on the rise, so Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will meet with them. We’re meeting today at 3 pm via video conference.

It also issued guidelines for international arrivals, which come into effect tomorrow. According to the report, it’s a good idea for all travellers to be fully vaccinated as per their country’s primary vaccination schedule.

In flight and at airport entry and exit points, masks and social distancing will be required. Passengers with symptoms will be isolated from other passengers and shifted to an isolation facility.

At the airport, around two per cent of passengers will be randomly tested. Airlines should identify such travelers (preferably from different countries) on each flight, the guidelines said. After they submit samples, they can leave the airport.

India has a sub-variant of Omicron, called BF.7, which is driving the new surge in China. Four cases have been reported in India – the first in July and the last in November. For several days now, there have been fewer than 200 cases a day in India.
