NASA unveils first image from James Webb Telescope (James Webb Telescope JWST): After a presidential reveal on Monday, NASA on Tuesday unveiled more spectacular “first light” photos from the James Webb Space Telescope, showing interacting galaxies, the death throes of a doomed star, and a stellar nursery. Demonstrated where massive young suns are being born, thunderstorms accompanied by blazing-force solar winds that sculpt giant clouds of gas and dust.
Even to the untrained eye, the images take the observer beyond the scope of the iconic Hubble Space Telescope, which has produced a steady stream of discoveries and spectacular images over the past three decades. For astronomers, Webb’s views are nothing short of breathtaking.
“From the data I’ve seen so far, we’ve seen in commissioning and then this first week of science, yes, it’s going to be revolutionary,” said Jane Rigby, Web Operations project manager at Goddard. Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. “These are incredible abilities we’ve never had before.”
