In the Adajan neighborhood, the deceased were found in their apartment. A suicide note allegedly stating they were suffering financial distress led them to commit suicide. An individual was found hanging after consuming poisonous substances, including three children.

There were also two minor daughters and the man’s parents among those found dead.

A man, his wife, his parents, the couple’s six-year-old son and two daughters aged 10 and 13 were found dead at their home in Siddheshwar Apartment in Surat this afternoon. We are trying to determine the cause of the deaths,” said DCP (Zone-5) R P Barot.

Manish Solanki, 37, a contractor, was identified as the suspect. It was discovered that his body had been hung. On the floor and on the bed of the house were found the bodies of the remaining six people.

Barot said the family took the extreme step out of financial distress caused by not being able to recover money lent, as indicated by the note found in the house.

The body of Solanki’s family members has been sent for post-mortem examination by Surat Mayor Niranjan Zanzmera.

He was reported to have borrowed money from some people who did not repay him, according to the Indian Express. He owned four flats in the same building, which he hailed from Amreli district.

Manish is from Savarkundla in the Amreli district and has lived with his family in Surat for many years. Besides the apartment he lived in with his family, he owns four other apartments in the same building.

Surat Deputy Commissioner of Police Rakesh Barot told The Indian Express, “Manish Solanki runs a furniture business and works on newly constructed construction sites. A poison was given to Manish’s family members before he hanged himself. Manish is believed to have written a suicide note. To find out more information, we are conducting an investigation.”

On Saturday afternoon, police took the bodies to the New Civil Hospital. Police have begun the process of registering an offence in connection with the incident.

Manish lent money to several people and demanded payment from them as Diwali approached, but they refused to pay and avoided citing excuses. He is being investigated by the Adajan police for the reason behind such a drastic action.
