Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Japan, designed and developed the Concept eVX electric SUV concept. A 60kWh battery pack will give it 550 km of driving range.

As a member of the Suzuki Group, addressing global warming is a priority,” said SMC Representative Director and President Toshihiro Suzuki at the expo.

Further, he said, “we are promoting a range of global measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated from our business. One key measure is reducing CO2 emitted by using our products. Here in India, as announced in March last year, we will invest Rs 10,000 crore in the production of BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and their batteries.” Maruti Suzuki is also displaying its range of eco-friendly products such as the WagonR Flex Fuel prototype, Brezza S-CNG, and Grand Vitara Intelligent Electric Hybrid.

“With a special focus on Aatmanirbhar Bharat, we’ve committed to bringing new products, technologies, investments and facilities to India.

Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said, “We want to explore hybrids, CNG, bio-CNG, ethanol, and electrics in order to support the Government of India’s twin goals of reducing oil imports and going carbon net zero by 2070.”

The approach to electric vehicles is holistic with scale and localization.

Takeuchi says the Concept eVX is Suzuki’s first global strategic electric vehicle.

“With its sharp design language and battery electric powertrain, it reinforces our commitment to environmental friendliness and sustainability,” he said.

Maruti Suzuki is showcasing 16 vehicles at the expo, including the Grand Vitara, XL6, Ciaz, Ertiga, Brezza, WagonR Flex Fuel, Baleno, and Swift.

Originally scheduled for 2022, COVID-19 postponed the biennial auto show. Mahindra & Mahindra, Skoda, Volkswagen, Nissan, and luxury car makers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi won’t be there.

At the Ethanol pavilion, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, and TVS Motor Company will display flex-fuel prototypes of their two-wheelers.

The traditional automakers will be joined by Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Kia India, Toyota Kirloskar, and MG Motor India at the show at Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) that will see five global launches and 75 products unveiled.

Press days are on January 11-12, followed by general public days from January 13-18. This edition has a lot more startup players, especially in electric vehicles.
