As a result, she qualified for the quarterfinals. To qualify for the semifinals, she defeated Chen Szu-Yu of Taiwan 4-3 (6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, 11-9).

Lucky point for Batra

The Japanese had the service at deuce, but an unforeseen fault-Hayata’s service hit the net and fell on her side-enabled Manika to go up with a luck point (11-10) and take the winning point.

However, the Japanese ran with a good lead in the next race to reduce the margin. In the sixth Manika Batra game, Manika changed her strategy, attacking from the beginning and conceding the first point. At 5-2, she managed to score another point. The Japanese became more error-prone as frustration set in, unable to keep the ball on the table even as Manika went from strength to strength to win 11-2.

In the round of 16, Manika upset World No.7 Chen Xingtong from China, then beat 23rd ranked Chen Szu-Yu of Taipei 4-3 in the quarter-finals to win bronze.

India won its third medal at the continental meet. Chetan Baboor was the only Indian table tennis player to win a medal at the Asian Cup before Manika.
