Mangaluru Auto Blast: The Mysuru rented house of the main accused in the Mangaluru autorickshaw blast incident was raided on Sunday, police said. Also, bomb squad has been deployed in the area for the search operation.

According to the police, the accused had taken a one-room house on rent last month. He had told the home owner that he was in the city for “mobile repair training”.

The Karnataka police chief said earlier today that Saturday’s autorickshaw blast was not accidental but an “act of terror with intent to cause grievous hurt”.

Sources told Indinews that the police recovered a “burnt pressure cooker with battery” inside the autorickshaw.

Tension prevailed on Saturday following a mysterious explosion in a moving auto. The incident is of Kankanadi police station area and the police has taken this matter very seriously and is probing the matter.

The visuals of the blast were captured on CCTV and police are examining the footage. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials have found two batteries, nuts, bolts and material containing circuit wiring. It is suspected that a mild explosive device has been used for the blast.

Both the passenger and the auto driver were injured in the incident. The police are also looking for eyewitnesses to the blast.

In light of the incident, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai visited the city and ADGP (Law and Order) Alok Kumar ordered a high-level inquiry.

“The investigation is being done in all dimensions. Senior officers in Mangaluru city will supervise the investigation,” he added.

A team of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) may also visit the spot for investigation.

The passenger has been giving confusing statements to the police and his role is being suspected.

The police have collected the passenger’s ID card from which Jim has been identified as Premraj Kanogi. Half of his body is burnt and police are verifying his statements and history.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sasikumar said that the fire was noticed after a passenger boarded the auto.

Meanwhile, DGP Praveen Sood termed it as an ‘act of terror’. “It is now confirmed. The blast was not accidental but an act of intent to cause serious damage. Karnataka State Police is probing it in depth along with central agencies,” he tweeted.
