According to the chief of the Border Security Force (BSF), Make-in-India technology is assisting the force in shooting down drones carrying deadly weapons, ammunition, and drugs from Pakistan more successfully, revealing that 16 drones have been neutralized so far this year, compared with just one in 2021.

Also, the force has developed drones that can drop tear gas shells precisely. The tear-gas unit in Tekanpur has developed drones that can carry up to five shells and can drop them at precise locations. However, so far, this technology has only been developed, and has not yet been distributed.

According to the BSF, most drones flown across the border are made in China and are readily available on the open market.

As drones have inbuilt chips, we can retrieve data. In some cases, it provides their exact flight path, said Mr Singh.

BSF is increasingly opting for indigenous solutions over foreign technology used for surveillance, he said.

Additionally, the border force uses indigenous technology to detect tunnels, IEDs, and border vigilance in dense fog.

As well, work on the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) – a plan to dramatically bolster India’s border security – is progressing as planned. We will install up to 5,500 cameras along our borders, and the Home Ministry has sanctioned 30 crore for this project.
