Shegaon: Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson Tushar Gandhi joined Rahul Gandhi in the Bharat Jodi Yatra at Shegaon in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district this morning, with the Congress describing their participation as “historic”.

The yatra, which has been passing through Maharashtra since November 7, resumed the day’s journey around 6 am from Balapur in Akola district and reached Shegaon a few hours later, where Tushar Gandhi, a writer and activist, joined.
Tushar Gandhi had said in a tweet on Thursday that Shegaon is his birth station.
“I will be attending Bharat Jodi Yatra on 18th in Shegaon. Shegaon is also my birthplace. The train in which my mother was traveling, 1 d. Howrah Mail via Nagpur halted at Shegaon station on 17th January 1960 at the time of my birth!” he said in the post.
The party described Rahul Gandhi and Tushar Gandhi as the bearers of the legacy of the two late leaders, great-grandsons of Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, respectively.
“The two walking together is a message to the rulers that they can put democracy in danger, but will not let it end,” the party said in a statement.
Rahul Gandhi walked with senior Congress leaders Mukul Wasnik, Deepender Hooda, Milind Deora, Manikrao Thakre, Mumbai Congress president Bhai Jagtap, and party’s state unit chief Nana Patole.
Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address a public meeting in Shegaon this evening. The Bharat Jodi Yatra is in its last leg in Maharashtra and will enter Madhya Pradesh on 20 November.
