NDTV reports that Olympian Bajrang Punia and the Home Minister met late on Saturday evening.
Mr Punia, Sakshee Malikkh, Sangita Phogat, and Satyawart Kadian attended the meeting that began at 11 pm and lasted more than an hour.
They demanded an impartial investigation and quick action against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh – who has been accused of sexual harassment by seven female wrestlers, including a minor.
The law remains the same for everyone, Amit Shah assured the wrestlers. According to reports, he told the wrestlers to let the law take its course.
After the five-day deadline for action against the wrestling federation chief expired on Saturday, protesting wrestlers sought a meeting with Mr Shah.
Last month, wrestlers in Haridwar announced they would immerse their medals into the river Ganga in protest against the wrestling federation chief.
After Naresh Tikait intervened, they temporarily shelved their plan.
According to the Delhi Police, the protesting wrestlers had rioted during their march to the new parliament, breaking the law in a frenzy despite repeated requests.
During the march, several protesters were detained. Across the country, people were shocked and outraged by images of champion Vinesh Phogat and her cousin Sangeeta Phogat being pinned by police.
A protest at India Gate will also be prohibited by the Delhi Police after the crackdown at Jantar Mantar.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been charged with two First Information Reports or FIRs. A separate FIR is based on a complaint from the father of an underage wrestler; one is based on complaints from six adult wrestlers.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has issued a defiant statement in the face of an escalating campaign for his arrest. In a statement last week, he said, “If even a single allegation against me is proven, I will hang myself. If you (wrestlers) have any evidence, please present it to the court, and I am ready to accept any punishment.”
In addition, he said he was ready to undergo a polygraph or narco test.
Farmers from Haryana have joined the wrestlers’ protest, adding to its volume.
The United World Wrestling (UWW), the sport’s governing body, condemned the detention of the wrestlers and criticized the “lack of results” in the investigation into Mr Singh. UWW cautioned Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to hold fresh elections for the WFI within 45 days or the federation may be suspended.
