After the customs service uncovered 30 kg of gold worth 14.82 crore being smuggled into the state of Kerala, a case involving the smuggling of gold through diplomatic channels was brought to light.
Ms. Suresh said she had nothing to do with the situation
Swapna Suresh, the main suspect in the gold smuggling case in Kerala, sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for a CBI investigation into the role of key government officials in the shocking crime. She said, “I’d like to bring to your attention that the person who did this terrible smuggling is an IAS Officer named Shivashankar (principal secretary of the Chief Minister of Kerala). Few employees like me had to go through the worst of this scam because the officials were so high up.”
She also said that she was just doing what her bosses told her to do and that she was doing this through the diplomatic channels of the UAE consulate. Ms. Suresh said she had nothing to do with the situation.
Ms. Suresh claimed the Customs and NIA were assigned
“When customs found out about it, they put us behind the bar for 15 months because we hadn’t told them anything. Even Mr. Shivashankar spent three months in jail. Ms. Suresh claimed the Customs and NIA were assigned the case to investigate because of the government’s power. “ED is working well now,” she remarked. “I don’t think NIA is involved in these schemes. After I turned in “164,” they emotionally harassed my lawyer, me, and my family. The Kerala government harasses my lawyer and current working organization”.
The Kerala chief minister and the Principal Secretary were directly involved
“Please fix this problem immediately. Please review my case because it’s right. If not, I’m stuck. The real criminals will get away, but poor employees like me will be punished. Kerala’s government was involved in a scheme and used me as a scapegoat “Suresh said.
She also said that the family of the Kerala chief minister and the Principal Secretary were directly involved in “this big scam”. “We can’t compare these scams to the Bofors, Vedanta, Lavalin, or 2G Spectrum schemes that were run in India. The scam is worse than theirs. It has worked with the consulates of other countries against India, “she typed.Ms. Suresh also said that a CBI probe was “necessary to find out the truth”.

“It would be fair and right if the Government of Kerala didn’t get involved in this case, since the main suspects are government officials,” she wrote. “In this case, you need to keep a close eye on everything to find the real criminals. From here on out, I humbly ask you to understand how serious the situation is and take the right steps.”
Ms. Suresh also asked to meet with Prime Minister Modi in person so she could tell him about her concerns. She also said that she was afraid of being a target and that the party “could take her down with their hostile actions”. She said that the money was in a bag sent to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in 2016 when he was in Dubai. In the affidavit that Swapna Suresh filed, she said that 17 tons of dates that were sent from UAE to Kerala “went missing” with the knowledge of both the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the former Minister KT Jaleel.
The Kerala gold smuggling case is about how diplomats were used to sneak gold into the state. It came to light when, on July 5, 2019, the customs department in Thiruvananthapuram found 30 kg of gold worth 14.82 crore hidden in a shipment that looked like diplomatic baggage.
Ms. Suresh got out of jail in November of last year
After being locked up for 16 months, Ms. Suresh got out of jail in November of last year. The Enforcement Directorate, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the customs department are all looking into the case.
Ms. Suresh said earlier this year that M. Sivasankar, the chief secretary of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, used and manipulated her. The statements came after Mr. Sivasankar said that Ms. Suresh had tricked him by giving him an iPhone as a gift in his upcoming autobiography, “Aswathamavu: Verum Oru Aana.”
Mr. Sivasankar was arrested on October 28, 2020, after his request for bail in advance was turned down by the Kerala High Court. On February 4, 2016, he was let out on bail.
