India’s Response To PCB: “You cannot ignore India,” Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said in response to Pakistan’s threat to pull out of next year’s World Cup over the Asia Cup.

“All big teams around the world will take part in the ODI World Cup taking place in India next year. You can’t ignore India in any sport, especially cricket. What is cricket without India?” the Sports Minister said.

According to Asian Cricket Council chief Jay Shah, next year’s Asia Cup could be moved to a neutral venue if India does not travel to Pakistan.

According to Anurag Thakur, the home ministry will decide whether to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. Who would have thought there would be COVID-19? Anything is possible, but the chances (of the Indian team going to Pakistan) are not very high. In general, player safety and security are a priority,” said the minister, according to PTI.

Pakistan has hosted top international teams at home since last year. Teams like Australia and England have recently toured the country. Jay Shah’s statement has prompted strong reactions from the Pakistani cricket community.

A statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said Shah’s comments were unilateral and might split the international cricket community. It also said moving the Asia Cup out of Pakistan could affect future events in India such as the World Cup.

According to the PCB, such statements may split the Asian and international cricketing communities and can affect Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC events in India in the 2024-2031 period.

India and Pakistan will play in the opening match of the Twenty20 World Cup in Melbourne on Sunday.

India and Pakistan only play each other in multi-team tournaments because bilateral cricket has been suspended.

Since 2012-13, when Pakistan toured India for three T20Is and as many ODIs, India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral cricket series.

There have been strained relations between India and Pakistan over Kashmir and cross-border terrorism from Pakistan. Bilateral relations between the two have nosedived after terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir that India attributed to Pakistan-based militant groups.
