Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde says the country’s longest sea bridge will cut travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from three hours to 15 minutes.

Mr Shinde told IndiNews that the 22 km-long Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) will open to the public in November.
According to Mr Shinde, the current travel time from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai will be cut down to 15 minutes.
It’ll also be the first bridge in the country to have Open Road Tolling (ORT), a technology used in countries like Singapore where cars don’t have to stop for tolls. There will be 16.5 km of sea along its 22 km length.
“This bridge has international technology. It will boost the economy,” Shinde said.
It will also be connected to the eight-lane coastal highway under construction from Marine Drive to the Worli end of Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
“The MTHL will save a lot of fuel and reduce travel time from hours to minutes,” the Chief Minister said.
His government is working with the Brihanmumumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on various development projects in Mumbai. There hasn’t been any real work in the city in the last few years, he said.
“We’re working with the BMC on sewage treatment plants, pothole-free roads, hospitals, etc,” Shinde said.

Srinivas said the number of wires used in the project could go around the world if joined together.
As the islands are connected to the mainland, it’ll open up new growth opportunities for Mumbai and the country as a whole.
Srinivas said almost 90% of the construction is done.
