Chandrayaan-3 Launched: An entire nation’s hopes were carried by India’s Chandrayaan-3 as it took off from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The mission will make India the fourth country after the United States, Russia, and China to land on the moon.

Known as the Bahubali rocket, the Mark 3 heavy-lift launch vehicle carries the moon lander Vikram.
The spacecraft is expected to travel from Earth to the moon in about a month, and it will land on the moon on August 23. Once landed, it will operate for one lunar day, which is approximately 14 Earth days. The length of a day on the Moon is equal to the length of a day on Earth.
Chandrayaan-3 consists of three major components: a lander, a rover, and a propulsion system. The Orbiter from Chandrayaan-2 will be used.
India’s mooncraft ‘Vikram’ will land at the South Pole of the moon, where water molecules have been found. A startling discovery was made during India’s first moon mission in 2008.
Vikram is supposed to land safely and softly. After the lander releases Pragyan, the rover will roam the moon’s surface for a lunar day — 14 earth days — and conduct scientific experiments.
A previous Chandrayaan attempt failed four years ago when the ground crew lost contact moments before landing.
Chandrayaan-2, the ISRO’s second lunar mission, failed to land in 2019. In order to avoid past failures, ISRO has made several changes to the upcoming mission.
“There were off-nominal conditions that were initiated in the Chandrayaan-2 system during the last mission. “Everything was not nominal. And the craft could not handle the off-nominal conditions for a safe landing,” ISRO Chief S Somnath told NDTV in an exclusive interview.
