Visa Services In Canada: The Indian government has suspended the issuance of visas to Canadian citizens “until further notice” amid a massive international row over allegations New Delhi was involved in the murder of pro-Khalistan Sikh terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Visa services have been suspended “due to operational reasons” according to BLS International – an online visa application center.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently claimed that “agents of the Indian government” were involved in the killing of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45.

“Allegations of India’s involvement in any violence in Canada are absurd and motivated,” India said in response to Trudeau’s statement in the Canadian Parliament. Nijjar was among India’s most wanted terrorists when two unidentified gunmen shot him dead outside a gurdwara in Surrey in the western Canadian province of British Columbia on June 18. He was carrying a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head.
The Indian government on Wednesday urged its citizens living in Canada, as well as those planning to visit, to exercise “utmost caution” in light of the growing anti-Indian activities and the “politically sanctioned” hate crimes in the North American country amid a growing diplomatic row between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi, “threats” have been made against Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community opposing the anti-India agenda,” and Indian nationals are advised not to travel to places and venues in Canada where such incidents have occurred.
The Canadian government has long maintained that anti-India protests by Sikhs, as long as they are not violent, are constitutionally protected free speech. According to a senior federal official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive information, the country recognizes that more extreme and inflammatory actions must be reined in.
There are roughly 770,000 Sikhs in the country, almost half the number of people with Indian heritage.
Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s foreign minister, objected to an incident in June. In August 1984, Sikh nationalists presented a parade float in Brampton, Ontario, a city west of Toronto, mocking the assassination of Indira Gandhi by two Sikh bodyguards.
Jaishankar drew attention to a video on social media showing the parade float at a news conference several days later in New Delhi.
“It doesn’t help the relationship, and it doesn’t help Canada,” he said.
