At Dharamshala stadium on Sunday, Congress and BJP leaders kept aside their political rivalry to watch India and New Zealand play Cricket World Cup.
Jai Ram Thakur, the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, was joined by BJP national president J P Nadda, Congress leader and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and state Industries Minister Harshvardhan.
The match was watched live by several Congress legislators and Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr Rajiv Bindal.
Anurag Thakur and J P Nadda were both seated between Mr Sukhu and Mr Nadda. Anurag Thakur’s hand was held by the chief minister as they sat together in the VVIP stands.
The event was also attended by the chairman of the Himachal Pradesh State Tourism Corporation, Raghubir Singh Bali, and the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah.
The chief minister praised the stadium’s breathtaking surroundings and said the event exemplified our nation’s passion for the sport.
India dropped three catches on the field, however, as they had a rare ordinary day. The most expensive bowler, Kuldeep Yadav (2/73) took the wickets of Tom Lathan and Glenn Phillips.
On Sunday, India pacer Mohammed Shami snatched five wickets in his first World Cup game to restrict New Zealand to 273 all out. Daryl Mitchell hit a gutsy century in the first game of the tournament.
