“This exercise was planned well in advance of the recent developments in Tawang and is not associated with these China Clash events,” the Indian Air Force announced.

Two or three times in the past few weeks, the Indian Air Force (IAF) had to scramble its fighter jets in Arunachal Pradesh.

Chinese aircraft were detected near the Line of Actual Control, a contested border between the two countries, sources said.

To keep an eye on the movement of the Chinese air force, the IAF has also maintained combat air patrols in the region. According to the force, the training exercises in the east on Thursday and Friday are unrelated to China’s border clashes.

Earlier this week, Rajnath Singh told parliament that Indian troops prevented Chinese soldiers from entering Indian Territory using sticks and other weapons, but no guns, during the latest China Clash. A routine patrol by Chinese troops was blocked by Indian troops illegally crossing the de-facto border.

This is the first clash between the two countries since 2020, when 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese soldiers were killed in Galwan, a valley in Ladakh, in the Himalayan region of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

Four days after news reports emerged, the Indian government confirmed the China Clash. There was a flag meeting between the commanders of both sides to calm tensions. Moreover, the government refused to engage in a debate over PM Narendra Modi’s foreign policy claims in parliament, despite the opposition’s claim that Jawaharlal Nehru had encouraged such a debate during the 1962 war.

An image from a previous skirmish was shared with the false message that it was the latest clash in Tawang, a day after the government confirmed the clash.

According to Rajnath Singh, the Indian soldiers “compelled the Chinese soldiers to return to their posts” after a physical fight in the Yangtse river region in Tawang on December 9.

There are 25 points of contention along the undemarcated border between India and China. Yangtse, for example, has been repeatedly targeted by the Chinese.

After multiple meetings between military commanders, Indian and Chinese troops have withdrawn from key points in the two years since the Galwan clashes.
